Kompak banget kan? Nah, buat yang bertanya-tanya, sebenarnya apa sih yang bikin Eric jatuh cinta dan sampai segitunya sama bakmi? Simak aja yuk interview eksklusif kita berikut ini!

1. Who are you?

I am a person, the founder of Bakmi Club among other things.

2. Tell us a little bit about Bakmi.Club?

Bakmi Club is a website and community dedicated to Bakmi. I started it about a year ago. It was a hard time for me after losing my agency. I started building Bakmi Club as a project to keep me busy. I love Bakmi and Coffee and both have a very deep heritage in Indonesia. Every time I travel around Indonesia I discover many different kinds of Bakmi and many different ways to enjoy Coffee.

First, I’d like to say that I think Bakmi is awesome! One day, I went out and counted the Bakmi houses on one of the streets in Kelapa Gading (you know which one). I found more than a dozen on only one street and we probably can find more than fifty Bakmi houses in Kelapa Gading alone.

I started the project as a Facebook Group "Makan Bakmi", so that I can create a community for Bakmi lovers. The idea attracted so many Bakmi lovers. Soon after, I organized the first Bakmi Trip together. A week later, Bakmi Club the website built. And around a month after launching, I met Maskokoyoyo, a fellow Bakmi enthusiast. He is one of the co-founders who helped take Bakmi Club to where it is today.

3. Why is Bakmi so special?

Everywhere you go in Indonesia, you will find a local version of Bakmi. Every Bakmi house has their own unique ingredients and character. Sometimes even the same branch will have a subtle difference. By going around hunting for Bakmi, for me, it's much more than a culinary adventure. I can learn about the struggle and success of a family. Not to mention finding some history lessons you will never find in school or any book.

4. What are your top 5 Bakmi spots in Jakarta?

This is a tough question, as it changes over time. But here are my current favourite spots. Many will not agree, but it's my list anyway:

This is an even tougher question. Every city has their own character and the experience will always be different. I need to complete the list first to answer this. Here is a list every Bakmi lover must explore:

Medan, Bangka, Belitung, Padang, Palembang, Jambi, Tanggerang, Bogor, Bandung, Semarang, Solo, Surabaya, Bali, Kupang, Makassar, Manado, Pontianak, Singkawang, Ambon, and Sorong.

When I manage to do a Bakmi trip to all the cities on this list, I will answer your question.

6. What are your other passions outside of Bakmi?

Music, Coffee, Books, Art, Urban exploration and Nature.
